WHAT WE BELIEVE

Word of Life Chapel’s
Statement of Faith and Doctrine

Section 1 The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Old and New Testament are the Holy Scriptures which are the verbally inspired Word of God in its entirety, that is, God moved in the hearts of men to write the words He desired to communicate as the authors were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Therefore the Bible is God’s revelation to man, without error in its original writing, and the final and supreme authority in faith and life to the believer and for all that we believe. We believe the Bible to be the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creed and opinion shall be tested.
Exodus 20:1Psalm 119:89Matthew 5:17-19Luke 24:44-46II Timothy 3:15-17II Peter 1:19-21II Peter 3:15,16Revelation 22:18-19

Section 2 (The Godhead) The Eternal God

We believe in one eternal God, revealed in three persons as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; co-eternal in being; co-identical in nature, and co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections.
Deuteronomy 6:4Matthew 28:19John 14:16John 1:1John 20:28Acts 5:3,4I Corinthians 8:6Revelation 4:11

Section 3 The Person and Work of Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, that He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true man, that He atoned for sin by His substitutional death, He was buried and resurrected, and ascended bodily to the right hand of God as the believers’ Savior, representative, intercessor and advocate.
John 1:1,14Luke 1:34,35II Corinthians 5:21John 3:16Luke 24:1-7Acts 1:8,9Colossians 1:152:9Hebrews 1:1-37:24,25I John 2:1-2

Section 4 The Total Depravity of Man

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, and that he sinned in Adam. Sin is both the breaking of God’s moral decrees or laws and the failure to live up to God’s standards found in Mathew 22:37-40. Our sin thereby incurred spiritual and physical death, which is separation from God, and that all human beings are sinners by nature, act and failure, and are guilty before God upon reaching moral responsibility.
Genesis 1:27I John 3:4Romans 3:23Romans 5:12-14

Section 5 Salvation

We believe that salvation is the Gift of God brought to sinful man by grace to be received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who shed His precious blood on Calvary and those believing in Him are born from above, receiving remission of sins, justification before God, and eternal life with confident assurance of eternal glory.
Ephesians 2:8,9John 3:3-18Acts 10:43Romans 10:9,10,13I Peter 1:18,19Romans 8:28-39

Section 6 Separation

We believe that the evidence of a true believer is a life of devotion and yieldedness to the Lord Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells the believer and that he should refuse the desires of the world defined as the lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and pride of life, and also all binding relationships with unbelievers in marriage, business or society as well as all religious apostasy; but that his desire should be to glorify God in word, thought and deed.
Romans 12:1,2Galatians 2:20Romans 8:11II Corinthians 6:14I Peter 2:9-12I John 2:15-17

Section 7 The Church

We believe in the one true church, the body of Christ, consisting of all true believers in Jesus Christ who at conversion are placed into the body of Christ by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, who meet in local assemblies for Christian fellowship and the worship of God. This one true church is a spiritual organism whose members are endowed with spiritual gifts for the perfecting and edifying of the saints for outreach in Christian service.
I Corinthians 12:12,13Ephesians 4:11-16

Section 8 The Mission of the Church

We believe that it is the believer’s privilege and duty to witness by life and word to the truths of the Holy Scripture and to proclaim the gospel of Christ to all men and to assist other believers in every way to reach the lost throughout the world.
Romans 1:14,16Matthew 28:19,20II Corinthians 5:18-21

Section 9 The Lord’s Supper

We believe Jesus Christ instituted the Lord’s supper for believers to commemorate together His suffering and death until He comes, and that only saved persons who are in fellowship with their Lord should partake of the elements of the Lord’s Supper.
Matthew 26:26-29I Corinthians 11:23-29

Section 10 Baptism

We believe that every true believer is baptized into the body of Christ by the baptism of the Holy Spirit and that such persons should give an outward testimony of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by water baptism.
I Corinthians 12:12,13Matthew 28:19Acts 2:38

Section 11 Resurrection

We believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead bodily, according to the Scriptures, and became the first-fruits of them that slept and that the dead in Christ will be resurrected bodily at the rapture of the church to share in His eternal power and glory and that after Christ’s 1000 years reign the unbelievers will be resurrected bodily to stand before God in judgment and then to be cast into the Lake of Fire to suffer everlasting punishment.
Luke 24:1-8; I Corinthians 15; I Thessalonians 4:13-18Revelation 20:11-15

Section 12 Second Advent

We believe in a “catching away” (or rapture) of the church by the personal imminent return of Jesus Christ, in a seven-year tribulation period, and in the personal, visible and glorious return to the earth with His saints to judge the world in righteousness and reign on the earth 1000 years from David’s throne over regathered, converted, restored Israel and the Gentile world in unparalleled glory, righteousness and power.
Acts 1:11I Thessalonians 4:13-18Revelation 3:10Revelation 19:11-16Revelation 20:4-6

Section 13 Satan

We believe that Satan is a created being, a fallen angel who in pride rebelled against God and is the author of sin; the ruler of other fallen angels and this world system; the constant adversary of Jesus Christ and His Church, who will yet inspire the Anti-Christ to rise in blasphemous power against God and will finally be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire.
Isaiah 14:12-15Ezekiel 28:11-19II Corinthians 4:3,4Revelation 12:7Revelation 16:13Revelation 20:10

Section 14 Civil Government

We believe that all civil government is of divine appointment and for the well being of human society and that we should pray for those in authority over us and give to them God-honoring obedience and submission and that this obedience and submission should be consistent with scriptural exhortation to do good unto all men and in no wise to render evil for evil to any man but to ever follow that which is good.
Romans 13:1-7I Timothy 2:1-4I Peter 2:13-17

Our Church's Core Values

. . . because God welcomed us in Christ while we were still far off from Him. (Eph. 2:13, Gal. 5:22-23, Heb. 13:2, Jam. 2:1-8, Rom. 16:3-16, 1 Cor. 16:19-20)

. . . because God’s Word is our ultimate authority and also the very breath of God. (2 Tim. 2:15, 3:16-17, 4:1-2)

. . . because the whole Bible is about Christ and so is our life. He is the true Hero, Savior and King of the Bible meant to indwell us and lives through us. (Luke 24:27, Col. 1:25-27, Gal. 2:20, Phil. 3:8-9, 1 John 4:9)

. . . because children are extra special to Jesus and families reflect the image of God. (Matt. 19:14, Deut. 6:4-9, Eph. 5:22-6:4)

. . . because God has sent us on a mission to show the Gospel in word & work through the continued work of the Spirit through the Body of Christ, His Church. (Acts 1:8, Matt. 5:13-16, 28:19-20, Luke 10:2, John 14:12, Eph. 3:20-21, 2 Thess. 2:16-17)
